My apartment!!

Here are a TON of photos of my new apartment! Stay tuned- I'll post video walk-throughs soon!

The stairs in (I can't figure out how to make it go not-sideways, so just cock your head to the side for now...)

This is what you see once you get to the top of the stairs... its the living room.

This is the rest of the living room. The stairs are below that half-wall, and behind the stairs to the right of that pillar is a little nook we're trying to figure out what to do with. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know, as I'm stumped! (its 4' x 5.5')

This is the living room, and the man to the left is Blake, the pseudo-landlord/caretaker of the properties. He lives about a block away, so it'll be nice to have someone that close by to take care of things! I'm standing in the kitchen, and the window you see at the very back is in my bedroom.

This is my bright & shiny kitchen! Hooray for yellow tile!

The hallway from my kitchen/eating area to my bedroom. The bathroom is to the left and there is a closet to the right.

My bathroom. Yep. More sweet, yellow tile.

The other half of my kitchen. This is me, signing the lease!

The view outside the front window (over the stairs). Usually there are TWO sets of blinds, but we had a slight mishap and might have ripped one half of the blinds down. Yep. We're that good. Give us 5 minutes after the lease is signed, and we're tearing things apart.

The outside of my door & my address.

new day, not much news...

Lets see... today I:
- met with my new boss, Kevin Clark
- found the satellite office where I'll be working one day a week
- found out that they are going to give me more money than I thought to help me move down here (YAY!)
- ate my first Reuben Sandwich (and it was delicious!)

Tomorrow we'll go EARLY to sign the lease and finally take more pictures of the inside of the apartment. We're also going to measure everything so I can start planning where I want all of my furniture to go.

We fly home tomorrow night, and mom and I are both REALLY excited to get back home. Its been a whirlwind few days here, but we've gotten everything done we came to do, so I'd consider it a huge success!

The sad news in all of this:
we don't get to take the PT Cruiser with us. Sigh... guess you can't have it all, eh?!

What a week!

This blog will be where I can keep friends, family, or other online stalkers updated on my life, my move to Florida (sunburns here I come!), and other adventures or bizarre thoughts of mine!

So, let's back it up a bit...

It all started in May when I was still volunteering my life away at the Missourian. There was a posting for the job in Jacksonville at the paper and I applied expecting to never hear back. But a few weeks later, they were flying me down, interviewing me, and I totally fell in love with the city.

Last week we were on vacation in Seagrove Beach, FL when they called to offer the job, and instead of driving back to MO with Dad and the boys, Mom and I rented a car and drove on into Jacksonville. And check out what a ROCKIN' car we got!!!

Oh, yes. Love me some PT Cruiser.

So after we got over the joy... scratch that... the shock/disappointment/awe in driving that ugly car, we set off down I-10 and headed from one Florida town to another!

And then, we proceeded to get lost. A lot. But we did manage to find our way to the TU building:

In fact, we spent all of Saturday night driving in circles, accidentally finding the rough neighborhoods, and then finally ending up in the neighborhood I wanted to look for apartments in.

Behold: San Marco.

This neighborhood was built during the 30's (according to my future landlord) when the Jacksonville Shipyards were booming. A lot of the middle management/owners/etc. at the time lived around here, and the homes are really very charming. A lot of them are now split into tri-plexes & quad-plexes, but still have the older feel to them.

This is where I'll be living:

Its called carriage-house apartment, and its all mine! We're gonna go back tomorrow and take more pictures of the inside, but here is my street and the general neighborhood I'll be living in:

This is the building next-door to mine... but not where I'll be living!

Aaand... Mom and I were tired, so we decided to hit up Peterbrooke Chocolatier, Jacksonville's delicious hometown chocolate place... and its yummy.

To close tonights post, here is some of the Jacksonville skyline from a few places around town... this first one was right before I almost got hit by a car. SO EXCITING here!
